You want the tile to come right around the drain, with at least 1/2 inch of space for a drainage hole. Cut out the tiles with a utility knife. I used a jigsaw to cut them out. If you don’t know how to do this, you can always ask a friend or family member to help you with this step.
The edges should be smooth, but not too smooth that it looks like you’re cutting through a piece of wood. Also, if you cut the edge too sharp, it will be difficult to clean up later. It’s better to have a sharp edge than no edge at all.
