What size PVC pipe is used for AC drain?

The drywell drain pipe shall be connected indirectly to the condensate drain pipe. The drywell drain pipe to be a minimum of 1-1/2” PVC or other approved pipe material shall be installed in accordance with the manufacturer’s installation instructions. (c) The water supply line shall not be connected to a water main or to any other water distribution system unless the connection is approved by the local water authority.

If the water line is not approved, the installation shall comply with all applicable requirements of this Code, except as provided in paragraph (c)(2)(i)(A) or (C) of Section 6.2.1.6.3.5.4. (i) Water supply lines that are not connected directly to water mains shall have an approved water-main disconnect valve installed at the point of connection to prevent water from flowing through the line to an unauthorized water source.

This valve must be located in a location that is readily accessible for inspection and repair, and that will not allow water to flow into the system.

Can I snake a clogged AC drain line?

If you have a very stubborn clog that doesn’t come out with a shop vac and water, then you can try using a drain snake. The drain snake needs to be pushed down into the drain line access. This will allow you to drain the clogs without having to use a vacuum cleaner. You can also use this method if you don’t have access to a suction hose.

How often should you clean your AC drain line?

To keep your drain line clean, flush it with solution every three months. Warm water can also be used. They shouldn’t use bleach as they can damage the plastic pipes as well as break down the cement joining the pipe to the wall. If you don’t have access to vinegar, you can use a mixture of vinegar and water to clean your PVC pipe.

Mix 1 part vinegar to 3 parts water in a spray bottle. Spray the inside of your pipe with the mixture and let it sit for a few minutes. Rinse it off with clean water and repeat the process until the water runs clear.

Why does my AC drain line keep clogging?

Because of warm air that blows over the cold coil of the HVAC, the drain pipe can get pretty humid; and along with the condensate traveling through the pipe, these can lead to clogged pipes. If your air conditioner has a built-in filter, you can remove the filter and clean the air conditioning system.

However, if you don’t have a filter on your AC system, then you will need to use a vacuum cleaner to clean it. Vacuum cleaners can be purchased at any home improvement store. You can also use an air purifier, but be sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions for proper use.

Is bleach or vinegar better for AC drain line?

We recommend using vinegar instead of a bleach solution because bleach can cause corrosion if you have copper tubing in your AC’s drain line. It is safe to use vinegar on carpets and clothing, but spilling bleach can ruin your carpet or clothing.

If you do not have access to a vinegar solution, you can also use a drain cleaner to clean your drain lines. You can find a variety of drain cleaners at your local hardware or home improvement store.
