When the valve opens, air is forced through it, and when it closes, it allows fuel to be injected. As a result, this valve can be thought of as a throttle-body valve, but it is actually an intake valve that allows air to enter and exit the crankshaft.
Will idle air control valve cause a misfire?

How do I adjust my idle RPM?
The electronic connection that holds the air adjustment valve to the throttle body needs to be disconnected. If you are using an aftermarket exhaust system, you will need to remove the air filter and replace it with a new one.
What is a normal idle RPM?
Without skipping or slipping, the idling speed should feel consistent. It will not feel smooth if your car is idling rough. RPMs will either jump up and down, or they will fall below 600rpm, and then rise back up again.
If you have a car with a manual transmission, you’ll want to make sure that the engine is running at the same RPM as the transmission. This is a good way to ensure that your idle is consistent.
What happens if idle air control valve is stuck closed?
If that is shut, you are not going to get enough air bypass and the car will idle low enough to shut off. The spring loaded throttle will not be able to push the air out of the intake manifolds.
So, if you want to keep the engine running at a higher RPM, then you need to open up the Idle Air Control Valve (IACV) to allow more air to be bypassed. This will allow you to run at the same RPM as you normally would, but with less air in the exhaust system.
You can do this by opening the valve and then re-closing it, or you can just open it and close it again. I prefer to do it the second way, because it is easier to see what is going on. It’s a little hard to make out in this picture, so I’ll try to explain it in more detail in a few minutes.

What should IAC be at idle?
You will want to keep an eye on your IAC, Idle Speed, throttle position, and air temperature. If you are using an aftermarket ECU, you will need to calibrate it. Make sure you have a good set of tires on the car, and that they are in good condition. Check that the air filter is clean and free of debris.
Start the engine and let it idle for a few minutes. Once the idle speed reaches 60 mph or so, turn the key back to “off”. If it does, then it is time to start the test again. Repeat steps 1-7 until you get the results you want.
When you’re satisfied with your results, go ahead and start your car and see if you can get it to idle at a reasonable speed. Now that you know what to look for, the next step is to figure out how much power you’ll be getting from your engine.
Can you clean idle air control valve?
