Whenever the warning light illuminates or a message appears in the information display, you should drain the water separator. Water accumulates in one or more of the separators when this occurs.
If you are not sure how much water is in your module, you can measure it by placing a small amount of distilled water in a measuring cup and pouring the contents into a clean container.
If you do not have access to a container that can be used to measure water, it is a good idea to use a kitchen scale to weigh out water.

What happens when a fuel water separator is full of water?
Water buildup in the water separator that isn’t drained will cause corrosion to the housing. The engine is one of the parts of your fuel system that will be affected by this. Fuel” light illuminates, it\’s a good idea to drain the water.
Why is there a water separator filter on a diesel engine?
A water separator is used to make sure clean fuel is delivered to the engine. A fuel water separator is a small device used to remove the water from the diesel fuel before it reaches the sensitive parts of the fuel system. In the case of a diesel engine, the filter is made up of two parts. The first part is called the injector, which is the part that injects fuel into the combustion chamber.
It is also called a spark plug, because it contains the spark that ignites the mixture of fuel and oxidizer to create the flame that drives the piston. This spark is generated by the air in the cylinder, and it is controlled by a valve that opens and closes when the ignition is applied.
When the valve is open, air is allowed to enter the chamber, but when it closes, it prevents the oxygen from entering. In order to prevent this from happening, an air filter must be placed between the intake and exhaust manifolds, so that air can enter and exit the exhaust manifold. Where is the fuel water separator located?
The fuel filter/water separator is located under the seat on the left side of the vehicle, between the engine and fuel tank. It’s a good idea to inspect the separator daily for leaks. The separator needs to be replaced at the intervals outlined in the Periodic Inspection Schedule. Check the fuel pressure gauge for proper operation. If the gauge is not functioning properly, replace it with a new one.
Check the timing belt tensioner for tightness. Replace the belt if it is worn out or has been damaged in any way. Make sure that the oil filter is clean and free of dirt and debris. Remove the filter and clean it thoroughly before reinstalling it. The filter should be replaced at least once a year, if not more frequently, to keep it in good working order.
If your vehicle is equipped with an automatic transmission, check the transmission fluid level periodically to make sure the fluid is circulating properly. This is especially important if you are driving a vehicle that has a manual transmission. A leaking transmission can result in a loss of power and/or an inability to shift gears.
