Once your main drain cover is off, place a pool plunger over the drain. If you repeat this motion several times, the clog will be forced up and out of the way. If you don’t have a pump, you can also use a garden hose.
If you’re using a hose, make sure the hose is long enough to reach the bottom of your drain, but not so long that it’s blocking the flow of water. You may need to adjust the length of hose depending on how much water you have in your home.

How do you blow out a swimming pool drain?
You can blow air through the skimmer lines. For about two-three minutes, you should see a mist blowing out. Re-position your valves so that they blow air back through the main drain. You will see a large amount of air coming out of the drain when you do this.
This is a good sign that you’re doing the right thing. Once you’ve done all of this, you should be able to see that the water level in the tank has dropped significantly. If it hasn’t, it’s probably because you didn’t blow enough air into the system.
How do you get air out of an inground pool line?
If you are using a pump that has a built-in bleed valve, you will need to make sure that the valve is fully open before you start the bleed. If you don’t do this, the air will not be able to flow through the system and you may end up with an air leak.
Can I use a shop vac to blow out my pool lines?
